Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has enthusiastically welcomed his new responsibilities as part of the NSW Government.

The former Chair of the NSW Public Accounts Committee has been elevated to the position of Parliamentary Secretary.

He is listed in the second most senior position on the Parliamentary Secretaries list, taking on responsibility for Major Events and Tourism.

“I am expecting the new role to be both challenging and exciting as I work to promote major events for the state and boost tourism numbers, including into regional New South Wales,” Mr O’Dea said.

“The state has much to offer, with its enormous natural beauty and built attractions, both in the cities and rural/regional areas.”

The Member for Davidson will work within the Premier’s cluster of portfolios, in conjunction with Minister Stuart Ayres.

His work will include helping boost tourism numbers from overseas, especially from countries such as India and China, where the number of people with financial ability and desire to travel is growing rapidly.

“The major events component will focus on promoting and supporting those events already established, as well as attracting new ones,” Mr O’Dea said.

“The Premier has already flagged he would like the Australian Formula One Grand Prix for Sydney and I will examine other opportunities.

“However, my primary role will remain representing the people of Davidson. I sincerely thank them for re-electing me as their local Member of Parliament for a third successive term.

“I look forward to continuing my service of the local community, along with the broader community as the Parliamentary Secretary for Major Events and Tourism,” Mr O’Dea concluded.

Mr O’Dea will be formally appointed to his new position when parliament resumes early next month.
