The Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea, today announced that Ku-ring-gai Council has been awarded a $52,300 NSW Government grant to clean up litter in St Ives Shopping Village carpark.
“I congratulate Ku-ring-gai Council for securing this funding to reduce litter in our community,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Through the Litter Prevention grants, the NSW Government is collaborating with councils to clean up local litter, educate communities and form partnerships with local businesses.”
Ku-ring-gai Council was one of 18 projects successful in accessing a total of $1.18 million funding under Round 4 of the Litter Prevention Grants program. The grants have been awarded under the NSW Environment Protection Authority’s Waste Less, Recycle More initiative.
Commencing with a thorough clean-up of the St Ives Shopping Village carpark, the project involves installation and upgrades of bins throughout the car park, with footpath decals directing users to the nearest bin. A community awareness campaign will include patrols by Council rangers and posters in the area to educate people about littering penalties.
