Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has welcomed the announcement by Federal Assistant Infrastructure Minister, Jamie Briggs and NSW Roads Minister, Duncan Gay that early work on construction of the $3 billion NorthConnex project will begin next month.
Mr O’Dea said, “This announcement is especially good news for the thousands of motorists wishing to travel between the M1 at Wahroonga and the M2 at West Pennant Hills.”
“The twin nine-kilometre tolled tunnels under Pennant Hills Road will take vehicles off residential streets, improve travel times and help boost the NSW economy through providing infrastructure jobs and increased efficiencies in the delivery of goods and services.
“For Davidson residents, the public-private venture should go some way towards reducing traffic along the busy Pacific Highway.
“As northern Sydney becomes more densely populated, the M1 – M2 link should assist Pacific Highway motorists travelling through the northern suburbs.
“Any reduction in traffic, particularly heavy transports, should also help reduce air pollution and noise levels for Davidson residents and others along the Pacific Highway corridor.
“I look forward to the next phase of the visionary NorthConnex project and ultimately to its completion with the many benefits it will bring,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
