Member for Davidson Jonathan O’Dea has made submissions through the independent assessment process that back the concept of one council on the northern beaches, and call for a change of approach to proposed amalgamations on Sydney’s north shore.
In a formal submission to the Delegate, Mr O’Dea stated his preference is for one Northern Beaches Council to be formed from the current Manly, Warringah and Pittwater Council areas. Similarly, he supports one council to be created from the Willoughby, North Sydney and Mosman Council areas.
Mr O’Dea made a separate submission covering the western side of his Davidson electorate and was confident that the Delegate would treat Ku-ring-gai Council’s proposal to stand alone with respect. He said that if that proposal was not upheld by the Delegate, then consideration should be given to altering the proposed boundaries to substantially reduce the size of the Hornsby Council component.
While opposing Willoughby Council’s suggested annexure of the Roseville Chase area from Ku-ring-gai, Mr O’Dea said that he recommended “the area currently in Hornsby Council west of Berowra Creek should be excluded from any Ku-ring-gai/Hornsby merged entity and transferred to the new Hills/Hawkesbury merged council area”.
“This land is essentially rural in nature and largely out of character with the rest of the proposed Hornsby/Ku-ring-gai council area”, he said.
Mr O’Dea thanked all those local people who had expressed views supporting or opposing the merger proposals. He indicated that his stance was informed by this public feedback as well as a personal assessment made in the community’s interest.
