Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has announced nine North Shore community projects within his electorate will receive NSW Government funding in 2016 through the latest Community Building Partnerships Program.
The Community Building Partnership Program funds local capital works to improve community facilities.
Mr O’Dea said applications for funding from across his electorate exceeded $1 million this year, but only $200,000 could be allocated.
This year, the largest single grant of $40,000 has been allocated towards alterations and additions to the Gordon Baptist Church. They include an extension to the ground floor hall and the addition of a floor level above to provide a counselling suite, meeting rooms and multipurpose spaces. The upgrade also includes sound proofing, accessible toilets and improvements to the church entry.
Killara Uniting Church will receive $23,000 for roof repairs and to weatherproof the hall. The works will involve sympathetic restoration of historical features.
$20,000 has been allocated to the North Shore Synagogue to convert a former staff room into a youth centre and provide improved access and security.
The Killara Catholic Church will receive $15,000 for disabled access, while Holy Family, Lindfield will receive $15,000 to optimise leaning and engagement through outdoor playing spaces. A further $10,000 grant has been made available for a similar project at Corpus Christi, St Ives.
The Northside Riding Club will receive $12,321 to provide accessible and safe toilets for people with disabilities, children and the community at St Ives Showground.
Almost $6,000 has been provided for safety modifications to the Gordon Girl Guides Hall, while nearly $3,000 has been provided to upgrade a children’s bathroom at the Lady Game Community Kindergarten in West Lindfield.
“I look forward to the completion of these projects and the local community reaping the benefits,” Mr O’Dea said.
