Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has announced that Jewish Arts Incorporated has been awarded a NSW Government Celebration Grant of $2,000 to promote social cohesion and bring people from culturally diverse communities together.

Mr O’Dea said the organisation was one of 50 across the State to be awarded a Celebration Grant under the Multicultural NSW program, which supports multicultural festivals and initiatives.

“I congratulate Jewish Arts Incorporated on being awarded this grant to assist with a multicultural multimedia art exhibition exploring similar concerns of people from diverse backgrounds about the human condition and the environment.

“It aims to engage multicultural youth through a digital media competition for teenagers, aged 14-18 years”.

Mr O’Dea said the NSW Government had awarded $105,900 in the current round, and organisations in the Davidson electorate would be able to apply for the next round of Celebration Grants (up to $5,000) when they open at the end of the month.

“The NSW Government is pleased to support initiatives which promote cultural diversity as well as the shared values which unite us as Australians. We’ve been able to fund some excellent initiatives in this grants round, and it’s great to see this project receive support,” Mr O’Dea said.

Minister for Citizenship and Communities Victor Dominello said Celebration Grants were part of the new $1.6 million Multicultural NSW grants program.

“Under the NSW Government’s Harmony in Action plan we’ve committed to supporting activities which seek to combat racism, empower multicultural women and girls and encourage intercultural engagement between young people through sport,” Mr Dominello said.

“In February we will also open applications for Supports Grants with funding up to $10,000 for initiatives which build the capacity of multicultural communities.”
