Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has welcomed the election of Mike Baird as Parliamentary Liberal Party Leader and Premier of NSW.

“Mike Baird is well placed to maintain party unity, discipline and focus, while capitalising on the outstanding achievements of the government under former Premier O’Farrell,” Mr O’Dea said.

“I also congratulate Gladys Berejiklian on her election as Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party. Her record as Transport Minister is outstanding.”

Over the last three years, the Liberal and Nationals Government has been rebuilding the economy, returning quality services, renovating infrastructure, restoring accountability and strengthening our local environment and communities.

With Mike Baird as Treasurer, NSW has achieved the strongest retail trade of all states, the highest business confidence in the nation, the strongest economic growth and the highest jobs growth.

“A continued focus on responsible financial management remains critical to a prosperous future,” said Mr O’Dea, the current Chair of the NSW Public Accounts Committee.

Mike Baird brings valuable private sector business skills from 18 years of banking experience to the role of Premier. Prior to his election to Parliament, he was Head of Institutional Banking for HSBC in Australia and New Zealand.

“I believe Mike Baird will bring a wise, responsible and balanced approach to government in NSW for many years ahead,” Mr O’Dea said.

“This is in stark contrast to Labor’s opposition, which continues to languish, unable to re-establish itself after years of disastrous mismanagement and dysfunction.

“We are honoured that Northern Sydney again provides both the NSW Premier and the Australian Prime Minister,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
