Member for Davidson Jonathan O’Dea has congratulated Mrs Kathy Kelly of Lindfield on being named a finalist for the 2016 A.H. Beard Community Hero Woman of the Year Award.
From a field of close to 250 nominees across all categories, Kathy’s significant contribution, particularly through the Thomas Kelly Foundation, has seen her join three other finalists for the A.H. Beard Community Hero Woman of the Year.
Kathy fostered a more responsible drinking culture through education and initiatives targeting youth, families, sporting groups, and the broader community, as well as through strong advocacy to local, state and federal governments.
“She is truly an inspiration and a role model for us all,” Mr O’Dea said.
The 2016 NSW Women of the Year Awards are a way for the NSW Government and the community to officially recognise the outstanding contribution of exceptional women in NSW.
Nominees for the 2016 NSW Women of the Year fall into five categories – the Premier’s Award for Women of the Year, Harvey Norman Young Women of the Year, A.H. Beard Community Hero, REX Airlines Regional Woman of the Year and NSW Aboriginal Woman of the Year.
“Too often, successful women don’t get the recognition that they deserve.
“These awards are our chance to honour some of the many women, like Kathy, who have contributed so much in NSW and their local community.
“I urge everyone in our local community to support Kathy and the other amazing women in the other categories and cast their vote,” Mr O’Dea said.
Online voting ends Sunday 28 February 2016. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in NSW Parliament House on 9 March.
