With a focus on Generation Z, today’s World Youth Student and Education (WYSE) Exchange Australia Youth Tourism Conference featured reflections on travel trends and opportunities from a range of industry experts, businesses, agencies, tourism specialists, media and academics.
Known for their appetite for adventure and unique experiences, the 2 billion global youth and young adults of Generation Z are beginning to travel the world.
“Sydney is the gateway for youth travellers to work, study and play in NSW, making it the perfect location to host the Youth Tourism Conference,” Mr O’Dea said.
“It is exciting to see a third of all visitors to NSW in 2015 were youth travellers aged between 15-29 years.”
Sydney continues to be the number one destination for international backpackers visiting Australia, representing 72.6% of all backpackers to Australia.
At the conference WYSE Travel Confederation and Backpacker Operations Association NSW, partnered with Destination NSW to showcase the attractions of Sydney and Regional NSW through ‘famil’ visits for overseas buyers.
“There’s no doubt events like Vivid Sydney – the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas, Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, as well as major sporting matches such as the NRL Grand Final, appeal to a variety of international, interstate and local visitors, helping to drive tourism to the State.
“The NSW Government has set an ambitious target of doubling overnight visitor expenditure in NSW by 2020, and we are determined to meet that goal,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
