The NSW Environmental Trust has approved $3,500 funding for each of two environmental education projects in the Davidson electorate.
“I am confident this investment will help increase the community’s knowledge and commitment to protecting the environment and promote sustainable behaviour,” local MP, Jonathan O’Dea said.
NSW Environmental Trust Grant recipients in the Davidson electorate include Gordon East Public School with their sustainable garden project, ‘Gordon green thumbs’. The aim of this project is to create a series of raised garden beds to explore rotational cropping.
The other recipient is St Ives Park Public School with their ‘Eco gardens’ project. The project aims to increase student, family and wider school community engagement, whilst providing hands-on and interactive learning opportunities to meet a variety of curriculum outcomes.
“Establishing gardens will improve the social and learning environment within school communities.
“The projects will engage wider school communities in activities such as teaching, volunteering and learning about sustainable practice while prompting environmental responsibility”, Mr O’Dea said.
Seventy-eight primary and secondary schools were successful in applying for the program, which has provided more than $270,000 in grants this year.
“I encourage educators and members of school communities to consider adopting environmental programs, and applying for Environmental Trust Eco Schools grants in the future,” concluded Mr O’Dea.
