A re-elected Baird Government remains committed to building a $40 million education precinct on the UTS Lindfield site, Member for Davidson Jonathan O'Dea said today.
“I am delighted that the government has reaffirmed its commitment to convert the UTS site to a K-12 public school,” Mr O’Dea said.
“The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) is expected to vacate the Lindfield site by the end of this year. Once that happens, the site will be refurbished and it is expected to be ready for students at the beginning of 2019.
“The UTS site provides a great opportunity to relieve school accommodation pressures in Northern Sydney primary and secondary schools. It will cater for over 2,000 Kindergarten to Year 12 students as well as a 40 place pre-school, and a 100 place Out of School Hours Care Centre.
“The new educational campus will also house the Department of Education’s Northern Sydney Education office, as well as a centre for PhD students in education research and a conference and training centre.
“Today’s announcement builds on a strong record of achievement, with schools in the electorate of Davidson already receiving more than $28 million in upgrades and capital works since March 2011.
“This investment is also in addition to the $70 million Northern Sydney Schools Plan, which includes a range of projects to relieve public school capacity issues on the North Shore.
“Investing in public education is vital for our children’s future and this project will give students in the Lindfield area the very best opportunities to succeed. In 2015 alone, schools in the Davidson electorate have received over $2.7 million in needs-based funding, much of which is a result of NSW signing the Gonski school funding agreement.”
Mr Piccoli said the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has committed almost $3.2 billion to school infrastructure and maintenance in the last four years.
