On site work to reduce congestion and improve road safety along Boundary Street, Roseville, between the Pacific Highway and Melnotte Avenue begins today.
Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea said Roads and Maritime Services is carrying out a $20 million road upgrade as part of the $246 million Pinch Point Program that aims to reduce delays and manage traffic flow on Sydney’s main roads.
Nearly 37,000 vehicles use Boundary Street each day, with average travel speeds as low as 13 km/h in peak periods. Boundary Street, along with Warringah Road, provides an important freight corridor for heavy vehicles servicing the Northern Beaches and is a strategic transport link in Sydney’s road network.
Mr O’Dea said, “The project aims to improve traffic flow and bus manoeuvrability on Boundary Street and provide safer facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.
“In April 2012 Transport for NSW replaced the rail bridge over Boundary Street, which included raising and widening the bridge support structures to allow for future road widening,” he said.
The work on the Roseville upgrade will be carried out in stages between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays and is expected to be completed by mid 2017, weather permitting.
There will also be 20 shifts of night work from Sunday 31 May to Friday 24 July between 8pm and 5am, excluding Sundays and public holidays, subject to weather conditions. Further night work will be required to complete the project and residents and businesses will be notified prior to the start of any night work.
Lane closures will be in place during work to ensure the safety of road users and workers and efforts will be made to reduce the impact of noise on nearby residents and businesses.
Mr O’Dea said, “Motorists should plan their trip, allow extra travel time and follow the direction of traffic control, reduced speed limits and all signs.”
Up-to-date information, including any date changes and detours will be displayed on electronic message signs along the road.
