This is the text of Ausgrid's latest update: issued Thursday 28 November at 6:49 pm

Power has been restored to 6,000 customers this afternoon as crews continue repairing severe storm damage to the electricity network.

As at 6:30pm this evening power is still out to about 15,000 customers in the hardest hit areas in Sydney’s north and those customers are being advised to prepare for the outages to last into the weekend.

Customers who rely on a continuous power supply for medical or life support equipment should relocate if they haven’t done so already.

The main impacted areas include parts of:

•           Roseville (1,600 customers)

•           Gordon (1,300 customers)

•           Frenchs Forest (1300 customers)

•           Pymble (1100 customers)

•           Chatswood (900 customers)

•           Forestville (800 customers)

•           Davidson (775 customers)

•           Killara (750 customers)

•           Mount Colah (450 customers)

•           Lindfield (430 customers)

•           Castlecrag (435 customers)

•           Willoughby (425 customers)

•           Belrose (420 customers)

•           East Lindfield (370 customers)

•           Castle Cove (360 customers)

•           Middle Cove (270 customers)

•           Roseville Chase (220 customers)

•           Allambie Heights (180 customers)

•           St Ives (180 customers)

•           Mosman (180 customers)

Hundreds of people are working on the storm response and an extra 50 linesmen are arriving tonight from Endeavour Energy.

We understand how inconvenient this is for customers.  The devastation is on par with damage from a cyclone and the network is being rebuilt from the ground up in the hardest hit areas.

Extra crews have been on ground today helping from the Central Coast and Newcastle areas. Other NSW networks are also providing assistance.

There have been more than 1,800 hazards on the network which each need to be inspected and made safe. Safety is the number one priority.

As those hazards are made safe crews have been able to begin installing new power poles and stringing new high and low voltage powerlines to enable us to reconnect properties.

There are still many powerlines down in storm impacted areas. If you see fallen powerlines always assume they are live and stay at least eight metres away.

END of UPDATE

Please be very careful of both fallen powerlines and the many large branches still caught in trees that could fall at any time.

If you need to charge your phone or other device please come into the office and we can do that for you and offer you a hot cuppa too.
