Davidson High School, Kambora Public School and St Ives North Public School students will attend the inspirational Invictus Games Sydney 2018 next month.
Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea said the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 will highlight the exceptional achievements of wounded, injured and ill defence personnel and veterans.
“This is an incredible educational opportunity for Davidson students who can cheer on Invictus athletes and witness firsthand the healing power of sport,” Mr O’Dea said.
Inclusion, resilience, service and the healing power of sport will be central themes for students on the excursion, complementing public school curriculum materials specifically tailored for the Games.
Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, David Elliott said almost 200 public schools have signed up for the unique experience, sharing the Invictus spirit throughout many NSW communities.
“It’s exciting for a student when the classroom comes to life and that’s exactly what they will see when competitors from 18 nations compete in sports including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, wheelchair rugby and indoor rowing,” Mr Elliott said.
Invictus Games Sydney 2018 CEO Patrick Kidd OBE looked forward to welcoming students from across the State to the Games.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for young Australians to learn about the nature within our community, the importance of being resilient and the healing power of sport,” Mr Kidd said.
The Invictus Games will be held in Sydney from 20-27 October.
