Andrew Martini, a St Ives local and TAFE NSW student, has won gold in the Restaurant Service category at the WorldSkills Australia 2018 National Championships.
Andrew Martini received the prestigious award after competing in Australia’s largest skills competition hosted at the International Convention Centre in June.
Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea, said that TAFE NSW students such as Mr Martini are in high demand due to their relevant and practical skills.
“I am thrilled that local students from the public VET provider are being recognised for their efforts. Congratulations to Andrew Martini and I wish him the best for the international competition next year,” Mr O’Dea said.
Andrew Martini commented, “It’ a huge honour to have been selected to represent Australia at WorldSkills Russia 2019. I hope this opportunity will allow me to showcase how vocational training can lead to successful employment and career opportunities. I know the next few months will be tough as I will be in training for the event and I really hope the whole country gets behind Team Australia for WorldSkills 2019 like they do our sporting teams.”
Andrew Martini’s gold medal win has secured him a place on the Australian Skillaroos team who will compete with the world’s best at the 45th WorldSkills International Competition finals to be held in Russia in 2019.
The NSW Government continues to deliver on its vision for a strong and publicly owned VET provider through its One TAFE NSW reforms. These accolades for TAFE NSW students demonstrate what is on offer for students if they choose a VET based education.
