The NSW Government’s Sydney Clearways Strategy is achieving improved travel times, less queues and a reduction in rear end crashes for motorists.
Since installation in March, the new clearways along Mona Vale Road have improved travel time by 46%, according to recent traffic analysis.
Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea praised the project, “These small changes have resulted in considerable improvements in travel times and reliability, enabling people to get to places that matter.”
“The weekday and weekend clearways between St Ives and Pymble have saved vital minutes of travel time every day, meaning people can spend more time with family and friends rather than waiting in traffic,” Mr O’Dea said.
The Government’s Sydney Clearways Strategy, which aims to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow, has resulted in the installation of 46 clearways totalling 254 kilometres across Sydney.
Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight, Melinda Pavey said that, “Sydney is a 24/7 city with weekend traffic figures and congestion matching that of the working week with people making their way to work, sporting and social events.”
“The clearway has given motorists more time off the road on both weekdays and weekends,” Mrs Pavey said.
There are more than 16 million trips made on an average weekday in Sydney, with 15 million trips each day on the weekend.
A further 22 clearways covering 109 kilometres are currently the subject of community engagement and consultation.
