“Roseville Public School and Forestville Montessori School have each received a $3,500 NSW Government Eco Schools grant.

Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea said, “Roseville Public School will use the funding for a sustainable living garden project, while the Forestville Montessori School will commit the grant to an organic kitchen garden.”

The Eco Schools Grant Program aims to instill environmental awareness and appreciation in school communities.

Mr O’Dea said the NSW Environmental Trust grants would help Roseville Public School and Forestville Montessori School to implement local and practical environmental education initiatives.

“Roseville Public School’s Sustainable Living Garden Project’s aims to help children develop environmental management skills, while Forestville Montessori School’s organic kitchen garden encourages students to gain seed-to-plate gardening experience, including food preparation and hygiene,” Mr O’Dea said.

“The school children participating in these grassroots environmental projects are likely to transfer their learnings to friends and families.”

Grants of $3,500 were awarded to 80 schools including 22 to schools catering for special needs.

Environment Minister, Mark Speakman said the Eco Schools grants would help young people to understand and value the natural environment.

“These grants help educate students on the importance of protecting the environment for future generations,” Mr Speakman said.
