Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has urged locals to make an appointment to give blood during National Blood Donor Week from 12 to 18 June.
Mr O’Dea said, “This is the week to celebrate this country’s 495,000 life-saving blood donors.
“National Blood Donor Week is the perfect time to proudly tell the world that you are a donor or a supporter and to encourage others to donate.
People of all walks of life need blood products. Some need it to get them through a serious event in their lives, like cancer or a dangerous pregnancy. Others have medical conditions which mean they need blood products regularly to stay alive or be healthy.
Most people are able to give blood if they feel fit and healthy, are aged between 16 and 70, and weigh over 50 kg.
Mr O’Dea said, “Every blood donation can possibly save up to three lives, and one third of blood donations go to treating people with cancer. Don’t put it off any longer, give blood today!”
