Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea, is encouraging local students, teachers and schools to register for the Hotel Career Expo, which is on 16 May at the InterContinental Hotel in Sydney.

“The Hotel Careers Expo is about attracting a new generation of professional candidates into the hotel industry to ensure the first impression every tourist has is the right one,” Mr O’Dea said.

The hotel industry offers diverse professional career pathways and high school students will have the opportunity to learn about these exciting pathways at the Expo.

Career opportunities include hotel management, sales and marketing, engineering, finance, IT, human resources and many more – it is an industry where there is a huge demand for expert skill sets.

Year 12 students will also be able to apply for one of three scholarships being offered by Sydney TAFE for a Diploma of Hospitality Management.

“This is a great opportunity to find out where the hotel industry can take your career. It’s easy to register and free to attend,” Mr O’Dea said.

The Hotel Career Expo is being staged by Tourism Accommodation Australia with support from the NSW Government and Austrade.

Students will be able to visit 20 Australian and international hotel brands offering genuine opportunities to start a career and find out more about the pathways available in the industry.

There will also be six career-focused interactive booths where students can learn all about career pathways; inspiring seminar sessions – with a dedicated stream for schools; and the opportunity to connect with industry leaders and the young people who are already carving out successful careers in hotels.

More information is available at http://hotelcareerexpo.com.au – students, teachers and school groups must pre-register via the website to attend.
