Today marks the start of National Youth Week, the major annual event run by young people, for young people, held from Friday 8 April to Sunday 17 April 2016.
“There are hundreds of great activities and events to get involved in across Davidson and the State, including the Shoreshocked musical festival, Northern Composure Youth Band Competition, Skate Fest, Discobility dance party and Arduino & Robotics workshop,” Mr O’Dea said.
“This National Youth Week 2016 is a chance to celebrate what young people do to make our community better.”
Last year, more than 80,000 young people participated in around 900 activities across NSW.
The NSW Government supports local councils across the state to run activities and events with grants totaling more $250,000, including $6,765 allocated to Willoughby, Ku-ring-gai and Warringah Councils.
“It is vital that government, business and the community find new, better ways of engaging with young people and harnessing their often revolutionary and innovative ideas,” said Mr John Ajaka, Minister responsible for youth.
Youth Week began as a NSW Government initiative in 1989, and has since grown to become a nationwide celebration of young people.
