While school students and staff have been on holidays, the NSW Government has been working hard to ensure capital works and maintenance projects at nearly 500 public schools across the state are ready for the year ahead.

Over the summer break work has continued on projects valued at around $220 million, comprising $178 million in major capital works and $42 million in minor capital works.

Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea said, “Six projects have been undertaken at four Davidson electorate schools while students and staff have been enjoying the summer holidays.

“With schools free of students and staff during the summer break, the holidays provide tradies and contractors with the time they need to make improvements and repairs and generally upgrade facilities. We want our students to have the best possible schools and we remain focused on ensuring improvements continue to be made,” Mr O’Dea said.

Examples of minor works and maintenance at schools include upgrading classrooms, painting, toilet upgrades and improvements to grounds.

Davidson electorate schools benefiting from minor works and/or maintenance include:

  • St Ives North Public School
  • Frenchs Forest Public School
  • St Ives Public School
  • Mimosa Public School

In addition, Lindfield Public School is benefiting from integration projects that are scheduled for completion during the holidays in readiness for the new school year.

“The investment in these improvements is part of the $450 million committed by the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government to enhance public school infrastructure,” Mr O'Dea said.

“This targeted funding will make our schools better places for students to learn and teachers to teach,” he said.

Since 2011 the NSW Liberals & Nationals Government has committed almost $4 billion to school infrastructure and maintenance, announced 50 major upgrade projects and funded 23 new or relocated public schools.
