Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has announced the NSW Liberal & Nationals Government will invest $40 million state-wide in new walking and cycling initiatives.
The Baird Government will fund more than 380 walking and cycling projects across the state to better connect communities, improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and encourage more people to become active.
“I am pleased the Davidson electorate will benefit from $12,790 to be delivered under a 50-50 partnership with Warringah Council from July,” Mr O’Dea said.
“The funding will improve bike riding facilities in Fitzpatrick Avenue, Grace Avenue and Prince Charles Road at Frenchs Forest. The new facilities should improve connections to Frenchs Forest Public School and the Forestway Shopping Centre.
“A further $10,000 has been allocated to Warringah Council under the 50-50 partnership for directional signage, through the Wayfinding program,” Mr O’Dea said.
The upgrading should encourage the community to use bicycle facilities and establish connectivity to transport nodes, schools, recreational areas, retail, specialised centres and to adjacent LGA routes.
Mr O’Dea said with cycling more popular than ever, the NSW Government is facilitating infrastructure needed to support local communities.
“If we want to encourage people to leave the car at home and become more active, we need access to safe, convenient and connected walking and cycling networks,” Mr O’Dea said.
“This investment is about connecting people and places and making a difference to the way residents move around their communities.
“I am also continuing my support for the establishment of a new bike park at the recently closed Belrose landfill site.
“The bike park would provide a purpose-built facility, especially for those who enjoy the challenges of off-road cycling,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
