Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has announced that maintenance projects are scheduled to be completed at a number of local schools during the school holiday period.
Mr O’Dea said, “While students and teachers have been away from school during the holidays, maintenance work worth more than $150,000 is being undertaken.”
At Ives High School, more than $108,000 was allocated for the refurbishment of the school’s canteen.
Over $22,000 was set aside for a new entrance path at Kambora Public School in Davidson, while a further $22,000 was allocated for ground works on the main oval at St Ives North Public School.
“Even the smaller projects can make a big difference to the appearance and amenity of our local schools,” Mr O’Dea said.
Since 2011 the NSW Government has committed over $16 million to improved school infrastructure and maintenance in the Davidson electorate.
Major projects included $7.9 million to rebuild Cromehurst School at Lindfield and a further $7.9 million for major capital works at Killara High School. The John Colet School at Belrose received $100,000 for a new art and music classroom.
Across the State, the NSW Government has committed almost $3.2 billion to school infrastructure and maintenance.
In the NSW Government’s first term, 18 new or relocated public schools were funded and 44 major upgrade projects were announced.
The NSW Government has also announced funding for an additional 694 additional permanent classroom spaces, reducing the need for demountables.
“The NSW Government is determined to provide the best learning environments possible in our schools now and in the future,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
