Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has welcomed the inclusion of St Ives High School in the $8.9 million Links to Learning Program.

Mr O’Dea said the program aims to encourage every student to make the most of their educational opportunities by completing school.

The St Ives High School Links to Learning Program will be delivered in conjunction with the Northern Beaches Business Education Network Incorporated.

“Schools in the Links to Learning Program partner with community organisations which have expertise in delivering youth engagement programs,” Mr O’Dea said.

“In 2015, 72 programs will be delivered across the State by a total of 46 not-for-profit, community-based organisations.

“The successful organisations were selected from over 250 applications from over 100 not-for-profit, community-based organisations,” he said.

To be successful in their application for funding, community organisations needed to demonstrate a strong track record in:

  • operating in partnership with schools;
  • improving students’ education, employment and life skills; and
  • targeting students at risk of not completing school and reconnecting them with education.

“Links to Learning will increase the opportunities for students because we know that the work prospects of young people are greatly improved by completing school,” Mr O’Dea said.

“This is a great chance for schools to partner with community organisations to deliver strong, innovative programs based on identified local needs.

“These partnerships will improve the educational outcomes and bring new opportunities for young people across NSW,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
