Member for Davidson Jonathan O’Dea MP today commended Stanley Street Butchery in St Ives for signing up to the NSW Government’s Joining Forces initiative, which encourages multicultural communities to engage with Centenary of Anzac activities (2014-2018).
As part of their engagement, the South African butchery will sell badges for Chatswood Legacy during Legacy Badge Week (31 August to 6 September). Monies raised support the families of deceased and incapacitated servicemen and women.
Mr O’Dea presented butchery owner Jonty Gill with a recognition certificate to commend the business for their commitment to commemorating the Centenary of Anzac.
“Davidson is a multicultural community and all residents should be empowered to unite in remembrance of the Anzac spirit”, Mr O’Dea said.
“Joining Forces encourages multicultural communities to participate in Centenary of Anzac activities and commemorate veterans”.
“Stanley Street Butchery has strong engagement with the South African and wider community, and I am delighted they are supporting Chatswood Legacy and promoting the spirit of remembrance locally.”
Mr Gill said the butchery looked forward to participating in Joining Forces and supporting the Centenary of Anzac in the local community.
“The butchery is delighted to support Joining Forces and commemorate those who have served in defence of our freedoms”, Mr Gill said.
“The Centenary of Anzac is one of the most significant chapters in our country’s history and the butchery looks forward to honouring and remembering the immense sacrifices of our veterans and their families”.
The butchery has also agreed to sell poppies for the Returned and Services League of Australia (NSW Branch) on Remembrance Day.
