The NSW Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is urging named government agencies to address recommendations more quickly.
The call to action is contained in the Committee’s latest report on the NSW Auditor-General’s performance audits.
PAC Chair, Jonathan O’Dea said, “While the Committee is largely pleased with the work undertaken by the agencies examined in the inquiry, some recommendations are taking too long to action.
“For example, the Auditor-General recommended that NSW Police identify appropriate destruction facilities across the state for the disposal of drug exhibits by June 2013.
“NSW Police has been working towards this goal, but has not yet identified any additional facilities.
“While there can be legitimate reasons for delays, these are important issues that need to be addressed expeditiously,” Mr O’Dea said.
The Committee’s report on the Examination of the Auditor-General’s Performance Audits from October 2012 to March 2013 followed up four of the Auditor-General’s audit reports: Monitoring Local Government; Managing Drug Exhibits and Other High Profile Goods; The Impact of the Raised School Leaving Age; and Managing Gifts and Benefits.
Mr O’Dea said, “The PAC report, tabled today, makes nine recommendations to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and overall performance of government agencies.”
