Minister for Roads and Freight Duncan Gay and member for Davidson Jonathan O’Dea today announced a $20 million project will start in the coming months to reduce congestion and improve safety at a key pinch point on Boundary Street at Roseville.
“The NSW Government has provided $20 million to widen the northern section of Boundary Street from the Pacific Highway to Melnotte Avenue, install traffic lights at the intersection of Corona Avenue and carry out other improvements,” Minister Gay said.
“The project, which also aims to improve traffic flow onto the Pacific Highway, forms part of the NSW Government’s $246 million pinch point program.”
“The NSW Liberals and Nationals Government is fiercely determined to ease Sydney’s congestion and keep the city moving, and this yet another example of the Government delivering.”
Mr O’Dea said 31 crashes occurred on this section of the road in the five years to 30 June last year and resulted in 17 people being injured.
“Boundary Street carries a high volume of traffic and becomes congested during the peak and the work will also aim to address crash risk and improve visibility,” Mr O’Dea said.
“Two dedicated left turn and two dedicated right turn lanes will be installed at Boundary Street into the Pacific Highway with access still available to Corona Avenue.”
“Two dedicated eastbound through lanes will also be installed from the Pacific Highway to Archer Street and a dedicated right turn lane from Boundary Street into Archer Street. with Hill Street will be converted to left in, left out access.
“To improve safety, a shared path will be installed on Boundary Street between Hill and Archer streets and a new traffic light crossing built across Boundary Street at Archer Street.
“A retaining wall will be built on the northern side of Boundary Street to improve stability, with further landscaping and urban design will be carried out to improve the area in consultation with Ku-ring-gai and Willoughby councils.
“Traffic lights will also be installed at the intersection of Boundary Street and Corona Avenue to improve road safety in response to community feedback.
Work is expected to start in the next few months and will be completed mid-2015, weather permitting.
