Boaters are soon to benefit from improved access to Sydney Harbour with a project completed to upgrade facilities at Sydney’s largest boat ramp at Davidson Park just north of the Roseville Bridge.

Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea said the NSW Government has provided more than $1 million under the Better Boating Program (BBP) to rebuild car and boat trailer parking at the site and access roads, ahead of the new boating season.

The work included rebuilding 104 car and trailer spaces, upgrading internal access roads within the precinct, improving drainage, lighting and landscape.

The work was managed by National Parks and Wildlife Services and fully funded by the NSW Government.

“In addition to being the largest boat ramp facility on Sydney Harbour, Davidson Park is one of only two ramps servicing Middle Harbour, making it a key access point for recreational boaters in Sydney’s northern suburbs,” Mr O’Dea said.

“This project formed the second stage of improvements carried out at the facilty in the past five years to improve safety, functionality and capacity for all waterway users.

“The previous stage of work included repairs and an extension to the boat ramp, installation of a new on-ramp pontoon, replacement of a separate access pontoon with disability access and installation of amentities,” Mr O’Dea said.

This financial year more than $5.4 million in BBP grants have been awarded by Roads and Maritime Services to local councils and boating groups statewide for new and improved boating facility projects.

Roads and Maritime uses revenue raised from registration and licence fees to fund the grants program for improvements to public wharves and jetties, boat ramps, car and trailer parking, sewage pump-out facilities and dinghy storage.
