Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has enthusiastically welcomed today’s budget announcement of major road upgrades around the new Northern Beaches Hospital site at Frenchs Forest.

Mr O’Dea said, “I am delighted with the visionary underpasses on Warringah Road, addressing its intersections with Forest Way and Wakehurst Parkway.”

“The Warringah Road-Forest Way intersection on the edge of my patch, is also one of the busiest in the Davidson electorate.

“Its upgrade, along with that of the nearby Warringah Road, Wakehurst Parkway intersection, should bring major benefits to local motorists as well as for those passing through the area, particularly during peak hours.

“Widening and other upgrades along Warringah Road and further improvements to other surrounding roads should also greatly benefit motorists through improved traffic flows,” Mr O’Dea said.

The multi-million dollar road upgrades form part of a $400 million roads package to help accommodate the new Level 5 Northern Beaches Hospital at Frenchs Forest.

The road works will help integrate the hospital with the local area, including through the provision of improved traffic flows to and from hospital facilities.

“It is an excellent demonstration of how the NSW Government’s commitment to re-build the State’s infrastructure brings long-term benefits both locally and regionally,” Mr O’Dea said.

“The decision by the Government to proceed with a world class hospital at Frenchs Forest has meant these much-needed road works have been brought forward to the benefit of locals.

“Motorists and public transport passengers can expect improved traffic flows, resulting in quicker travel times.

“It is also pleasing to know the planned road upgrades will be delivered within a set time frame.

“The first stage of the road works will be in place to help provide efficient access and egress to and from the new hospital when it opens in 2018,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
