The Australasian Council of Public Accounts Committees (ACPAC) has resolved to support increased powers for Auditors-General, ACPAC and NSW PAC Chair Jonathan O'Dea MP, announced today.

"The Australasian Council of Public Accounts Committees has resolved to support ‘follow the money’ powers for Auditors-General,” said Mr O’Dea.

The Council is currently holding its bi-ennial conference in Sydney.  With all Australasian jurisdictions represented, the Council resolved to provide support for Auditors-General to track government funding provided to non-government organisations.

“While we recognise that legislation varies in each jurisdiction,” Mr O’Dea said, “the resolution provides in-principle support for Auditors-General to ensure financial accountability and service delivery outcomes in non-government organisations.”

“This matter is one the NSW Public Accounts Committee is considering as part of its current review of the NSW Audit Office.

It was also highlighted by the Independent Commission Against Corruption in a recent report,” said Mr O’Dea.  He emphasised that, “This as an important measure to control the risk of corruption as well as improve public accountability.”
