Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea has welcomed the allocation of two new Mobile Police Command Vehicles for the Davidson electorate.
In the first roll out of 25 new vehicles, one will be allocated to the Northern Beaches Local Area Command (LAC), the other to Ku-ring-gai LAC.
“The additional high-tech Mobile Command Vehicles provide a high visibility Police presence in crime hotspots or high-traffic areas and assist police while they are on the streets,” Mr O’Dea said.
Premier, Barry O’Farrell said, “The new command vehicles are effectively a mobile Police station that officers can use to conduct searches, interviews and execute warrants.
“When combined with the nearly 300 additional police and new powers, the NSW Government is ensuring our Police officers are properly equipped to target anti-social behaviour and tackle crime wherever it occurs,” Mr O’Farrell said.
Police Minister, Michael Gallacher said Mobile Command Vehicles will supplement existing Police stations and allow Police officers to work essentially out of a mobile station anywhere they are needed.
“Each command vehicle is equipped with location specific radio with a mobile data terminal to access police databases, a television monitor, digital message boards and an interview room,” Mr Gallacher said.
NSW Police Commissioner, Andrew Scipione said “The mobile command vans can be deployed as part of high-visibility police operations targeting crime hot spots or used as on-site command posts at the scenes of major incidents including crime scenes, search warrants, crashes, and search and rescue operations.
“One day the mobile command van can be used at a crime scene and the next deployed to community events such as local fetes, gala days and crime prevention workshops,” Commissioner Scipione said.
Mr O’Dea said, “In the last two years the NSW Government has delivered critical reforms to support Police and communities across NSW.
“The allocation of 25 new Mobile Police Command Vehicles, including two in the Davidson Local Area Commands, reflects the O’Farrell Government’s commitment to ensuring NSW Police are well equipped to keep communities safe,” Mr O’Dea concluded.
