Multicultural Grants

Member for Davidson, Jonathan O’Dea, today announced $7,500.00 of funding from the NSW Government for two multicultural projects supporting the local community.

Mr O’Dea said he was delighted the Multicultural Community COVID Support Grants Program was providing $5,000.00 to support a project run by Christ Church St Ives.

The Christ Church Multicultural Media Enhancement Program has a number of initiatives, including English as a second language classes for the local community, live streaming church services in Mandarin and English and providing resources in various languages.

The Kehillat Masada Synagogue in St Ives is the other project in the Davidson Electorate. They were awarded NSW Government funding of $2,500.00 under the Multicultural Community COVID Support Grants Program.

The Synagogue project, Reconnecting Our Seniors, will assist the Synagogue to host a series of lunches and dinners to provide a relaxed social setting for older people. The project aims to combat social isolation, loneliness, and depression during COVID-19. Volunteers will help prepare and serve the meals.

“Both Christ Church St Ives and Kehillat Masada Synagogue have been delivering critical services to our local community, especially in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mr O’Dea said.

“These two organisations support some of the most vulnerable in our community and have devised projects that address critical problems of community connection and isolation during unprecedented times.”

Minister for Multiculturalism Geoff Lee has announced more than $1 million multicultural projects, festivals and events across NSW in the latest round of grants.

“These grants assist many outstanding volunteer and community groups which deliver important services, activities, festivals and events to our diverse communities,” Mr Lee said.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the strength and resilience of our multicultural society and how much we can achieve when we work together.”

“These grants will continue to support our diverse communities to ensure every member of our society can participate and thrive,” Mr Lee added.
